Part 1 — Her Special Day
The morning sun slipped gently through the curtains as Daniel stood beside his little girl’s bed.
“Wake up, birthday girl.”
A tiny smile appeared on her face.
She opened her eyes slowly.
“Is it my birthday?”
Daniel smiled.
“Yes, sweetheart. Today is your special day.”
She sat up, still sleepy, and immediately reached for the birthday crown sitting on her nightstand.
It was pink, slightly crooked, and covered in glitter.
Daniel had made it himself the night before.
He placed it carefully on her head.
“There.”
She looked into the mirror and giggled.
“I look like a princess.”
“You’ve always been my princess.”
She wrapped her little arms around his neck.
For Daniel, moments like this were everything.
Because he knew that not everyone would see what he saw when they looked at his daughter.
Some people saw that she was different.
Daniel saw a little girl who loved butterflies, danced whenever she heard music, laughed at the silliest jokes, and gave the biggest hugs in the world.
He also knew that birthdays could be difficult.
Every year, he wondered how many people would remember her.
How many would send a message.
How many would simply scroll past her picture.
So before they left the house, Daniel took a photograph of the two of them.
His daughter smiled directly at the camera.
He kissed her cheek.
Then he posted the picture with a simple message:
“Today is my little girl’s birthday. Please help me wish her a happy birthday.”
He didn’t expect what happened next.
