HOMEMADE ANGEL BISCUITS

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl combine warm water and yeast.
  2. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

This step helps the biscuits rise and become extra fluffy.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl combine:
    • flour
    • sugar
    • baking soda
    • baking powder
    • salt
  2. Mix well.

Step 3: Cut in the Butter

  1. Add the shortening or cold butter to the flour mixture.
  2. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the texture looks like coarse crumbs.

Step 4: Add Liquids

  1. Pour in the activated yeast mixture.
  2. Add the warm buttermilk.
  3. Mix gently until a soft dough forms.

Step 5: Roll and Cut

  1. Lightly flour your work surface.
  2. Roll the dough to about ¾ inch thickness.
  3. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut biscuits.

Step 6: Rest the Dough

  1. Place biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Cover lightly and let them rest for 30 minutes.

This gives them their soft “angel-like” texture.

Step 7: Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Bake biscuits for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.

Step 8: Finish

  1. Brush the hot biscuits with melted butter.
  2. Serve warm.
