- Prepare the ginger: Wash and thinly slice the fresh ginger. You can leave the skin on if it has been cleaned well.
- Boil the water: Pour 2 cups of water into a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil.
- Add the spices: Add the sliced ginger and whole cloves.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat and let everything simmer gently for about 8–10 minutes.
- Strain: Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain the tea into a cup.
- Add flavor: Allow it to cool slightly before adding honey and lemon if desired.
- Serve: Enjoy it warm, preferably after a meal or as a relaxing evening drink.
Ginger contains naturally occurring compounds such as gingerols, while cloves contain eugenol and other plant compounds. Both spices have been studied for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but a homemade tea should be viewed as a comforting beverage rather than a treatment for disease.
There is also no good evidence that this drink can make someone “strong and energetic in 2 hours” or produce dramatic changes at any age. A healthy diet, adequate sleep, hydration, and regular physical activity remain much more important for maintaining energy and strength.
If you take blood-thinning medication, have a bleeding disorder, or regularly consume large amounts of ginger or cloves, it is sensible to check with a healthcare professional before making concentrated versions of this drink.
