Garlic and Honey: A Traditional Home Remedy Explained

Step 1: Prepare the Garlic

Peel the garlic cloves and lightly crush each one with the flat side of a knife. Crushing the garlic helps activate allicin, a natural sulfur compound that contributes to garlic’s characteristic aroma and has been studied for its biological activity.

Step 2: Fill the Jar

Place the garlic cloves into a clean, dry glass jar.

Step 3: Add the Honey

Pour the raw honey over the garlic until all the cloves are completely covered.

Step 4: Seal

Close the jar tightly.

Let it sit at room temperature for 3 to 7 days, turning the jar gently once each day.

The honey will gradually become thinner as it absorbs moisture from the garlic.

Step 5: Store

After infusing, store the jar in a cool, dry place.

Use a clean spoon each time you serve it.

How to Enjoy It

Some people enjoy:

  • 1 teaspoon of the infused honey
  • 1 garlic clove
  • Followed by a glass of water

Others simply use the honey as:

  • A spread on toast
  • A drizzle over roasted vegetables
  • A flavoring for salad dressings
