Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and peel the potatoes (peeling is optional).
Slice them into thin rounds or small cubes so they cook faster and crisp nicely.
Step 2: Slice the Onion
Peel the onion and cut it into thin slices or small strips.
Step 3: Heat the Skillet
Place a large skillet (preferably cast iron) on medium heat.
Add the oil or butter and allow it to heat until shimmering.
Step 4: Cook the Potatoes
Add the potatoes to the skillet in an even layer.
Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally so they brown evenly.
Let them sit undisturbed for a few minutes at a time so they become crispy and golden.
Step 5: Add the Onions
Once the potatoes start to soften and turn golden, add the sliced onions.
Cook for another 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the onions become soft and slightly caramelized.
Step 6: Season and Finish
Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
Cook another 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
