Can One Kitchen Drink Shrink an Enlarged Prostate in 45 Minutes?

Claims that a homemade drink can make a swollen prostate “collapse” within 45 minutes and completely stop nighttime trips to the bathroom are appealing, but they are not supported by reliable medical evidence.

Frequent urination at night, a weak urine stream, difficulty starting urination, urgency, dribbling, or the feeling that the bladder has not completely emptied can occur with an enlarged prostate, medically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). These symptoms are common as men get older, but they should not simply be attributed to aging without an evaluation.

BPH occurs when prostate tissue gradually enlarges and begins to narrow the urethra. Symptoms can range from mild inconvenience to significant problems with bladder emptying. A drink cannot physically make an enlarged prostate disappear in 45 minutes.

That does not mean what you eat and drink is irrelevant. Staying adequately hydrated, limiting large amounts of fluid close to bedtime, reducing caffeine and alcohol when they worsen urinary symptoms, maintaining a healthy weight, and staying physically active can all be useful parts of a healthy lifestyle.

Some foods and plant ingredients are also being studied for prostate and urinary health. However, evidence for supplements and herbal preparations varies considerably, and “natural” does not automatically mean effective or safe. Some products may also interact with prescription medicines.

Persistent nighttime urination deserves attention because it is not always caused by BPH. Urinary infections, diabetes, certain medications, sleep disorders, and other prostate or bladder conditions can produce similar symptoms. A healthcare professional can assess the symptoms and determine whether testing or treatment is appropriate.

There are effective treatments for bothersome BPH, including lifestyle measures, prescription medicines, and, when necessary, procedures. The appropriate option depends on the severity of symptoms, prostate size, overall health, and other factors.

Most importantly, do not rely on a viral “45-minute cure” if you are having significant urinary problems. Seek urgent medical care if you suddenly cannot urinate, develop severe lower-abdominal pain, have blood in the urine, or develop fever and chills with urinary symptoms.

A healthy kitchen recipe can be part of a balanced diet, but it should not be presented as a proven treatment for an enlarged prostate.
