The claim that putting four drops of oil into the ear will make you “hear like new again” is misleading. There is no single homemade oil or four-drop remedy that can reliably restore hearing loss.
However, some types of temporary hearing difficulty can be related to earwax buildup, and properly formulated ear drops can sometimes help soften earwax so it can leave the ear more easily.
A Safer Approach for Possible Earwax Buildup
What You Can Use
For adults with suspected earwax blockage, pharmacy earwax-softening drops may contain ingredients such as carbamide peroxide or other preparations specifically designed for the ear.
Step 1: Check the Symptoms
Earwax blockage may cause:
- A feeling of fullness in the ear
- Muffled hearing
- Mild discomfort
- Ringing or buzzing
- An ear that feels blocked
But hearing loss can also have many other causes, so these symptoms don’t automatically mean earwax is responsible.
