Place the millet in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse it thoroughly under cool running water. This removes excess surface particles and helps give the cooked grain a cleaner flavor.
Step 2: Cook the Millet
Add the rinsed millet and 1½ cups of water or milk to a saucepan.
Bring it to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for about 15–20 minutes, until the millet becomes tender and absorbs most of the liquid.
Step 3: Let It Rest
Turn off the heat and leave the saucepan covered for about 5 minutes.
Fluff the millet gently with a fork.
Step 4: Add the Protein
Transfer the warm millet to a bowl and allow it to cool slightly. Add the Greek yogurt, pumpkin seeds, and chopped nuts.
These ingredients provide additional protein and nutrients, making the meal more substantial than plain millet alone.
Step 5: Add Fruit
Top the bowl with sliced banana and berries. Sprinkle cinnamon over everything and add a small amount of honey if desired.
Step 6: Enjoy It as Part of a Balanced Diet
For older adults, spreading protein throughout the day can be a practical way to support muscle maintenance. Other excellent protein choices include eggs, fish, chicken, dairy products, beans, lentils, tofu, and other soy foods.
Don’t Forget Strength Exercise
Nutrition works best alongside appropriate physical activity. Resistance exercises such as chair exercises, resistance bands, or supervised strength training can help older adults maintain muscle and strength.
If someone is over 75, has chronic medical conditions, or has not exercised for a long time, it is sensible to ask a healthcare professional which exercises are appropriate.
The real secret isn’t a miracle seed or a one-day transformation. It’s consistent protein, nutritious meals, regular strength activity, and adequate recovery.
