Avocado Seed Powder: How to Prepare It

Avocado seeds are often saved for homemade preparations, but there is limited evidence that consuming avocado-seed powder provides specific health benefits, and the seed contains compounds that have not been well established as safe for regular human consumption. So it is better not to present it as a proven treatment for cholesterol, arthritis, pain, or other medical conditions.

If you want to prepare the seed for non-food uses, such as a natural craft or dye ingredient, you can follow the basic preparation shown in the image:

Step 1: Remove the Seed

Cut the avocado, remove the pit, and wash the seed thoroughly to remove any remaining fruit.

Step 2: Dry Completely

Pat it dry and allow it to dry thoroughly in a well-ventilated place. A completely dry seed is easier to process.

Step 3: Grate Carefully

Once fully dry, grate the seed into small pieces using a sturdy grater. Take care because the seed can be hard and slippery.

Step 4: Grind

Place the dried grated pieces into a clean grinder and process until you obtain a fine powder.

Step 5: Store

Keep the powder in a clean, completely dry, airtight jar and label it clearly. Store it away from moisture and heat.

Important: Don’t use avocado-seed powder as a substitute for prescribed treatment or claim that it can cure disease. If the goal is lowering cholesterol or managing joint problems, foods such as oats, beans, vegetables, nuts, and avocado flesh have much better-established nutritional benefits.
