A refreshing green smoothie ready before your morning coffee finishes brewing

Variations to Try

  • Add a handful of frozen mango or pineapple for a tropical twist.
  • Swap the water for coconut water for a slightly sweeter, more refreshing base.
  • Add a spoonful of Greek yogurt for extra protein and creaminess.
  • Use kale instead of spinach for a slightly earthier flavor.
  • Add fresh mint leaves for an even brighter, cooler finish.
  • Add a tablespoon of chia seeds or ground flaxseed for extra fiber.

Serving Ideas

This smoothie is a lovely way to start the day on its own, but it also works well alongside a simple breakfast. Pair it with a slice of whole-grain toast, a bowl of oatmeal, or a couple of scrambled eggs for a more complete morning meal. It’s also a good option for an afternoon pick-me-up when you want something light and refreshing.

If you’re making it for more than one person, simply double or triple the recipe. Just be sure your blender has enough room — fill it no more than about two-thirds full so the ingredients have space to move.

Make-Ahead and Storage

Green smoothies are best enjoyed fresh, but you can prepare the ingredients ahead of time to make busy mornings easier. Wash and chop the fruit and vegetables the night before and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. In the morning, just add everything to the blender.

If you have leftovers, pour the smoothie into a sealed jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Give it a good shake before drinking. The color may darken slightly over time, but the flavor will still be good. For longer storage, you can freeze the smoothie in ice cube trays and blend the cubes later, though the texture will be slightly different.
