These simple air fryer wings come out golden brown, juicy inside, and wonderfully crispy without deep frying.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs (900 g) chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
- 1 tablespoon baking powder (not baking soda)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Dry the Wings
Pat the chicken wings completely dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is the secret to crispy skin.
Step 2: Season
In a large bowl, combine:
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Black pepper
Add the wings and toss until evenly coated.
Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3–5 minutes.
Step 4: Arrange the Wings
Place the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd them. Cook in batches if needed.
Step 5: First Cook
Air fry at 380°F (193°C) for 20 minutes, flipping the wings halfway through.
Step 6: Crisp Them Up
Increase the temperature to 400°F (204°C) and cook for 5–8 more minutes until the wings are deeply golden and crispy.
Step 7: Rest and Serve
Let the wings rest for 2 minutes before serving.
