Ingredients:
1 loaf Italian bread
2 teaspoons minced garlic
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon pepper
1 pound ribeye steak
Black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).Use parchment paper to line a baking sheet.
Slice the Italian bread loaf in half lengthwise.. Place the bread, sliced side up, onto the baking sheet that has been prepared.
Add the softened butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper to a small bowl.. Spread an equal amount of the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread. Set aside.
Slice the ribeye steak into thin strips. Season the strips with salt and black pepper, and set them aside.
In a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil and butter. Once the butter is melted and the oil is hot, add the thinly sliced onion. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. If using green bell peppers, add them to the skillet in the final 5 minutes of cooking the onions. Transfer the onions (and peppers) to a plate and cover to keep warm.
In the same skillet over medium heat, add the seasoned ribeye strips. Use two spatulas to shred the meat while it cooks. Hold the meat in place with one spatula and use the other spatula to pull it apart.
During cooking, this procedure helps to tenderize the meat.
. Continue cooking until the meat is cooked through but not crisp, about 2 minutes.
Divide the cooked ribeye meat equally between both halves of the bread. Top each half with the caramelized onions (and green bell peppers, if using). Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the meat and vegetables, ensuring all the toppings are covered with cheese.
