Homemade Chocolate Croissants

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
One-third cup heated milk (between 110 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit)
1 egg
One stick of butter, half a cup, room temperature
8 ounces dark chocolate, cut into small pieces

Instructions:

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 2 teaspoons active dry yeast. Add 3/4 cup warm milk and 1 egg, and stir until well combined.
Approximately half a cup of flour at a time, gradually add the remaining flour until the dough is smooth and elastic. Knead dough for approximately five minutes.
Spoon the dough into a basin, cover with a cloth, and oil it. Let it rise in a warm location until it has doubled in size, which should take around an hour.
Set the oven’s temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, or 200 degrees Celsius
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. SOver two thirds of the dough, spread 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter, leaving a 1 inch border all around. Fold the unbuttered third of the dough over the buttered third, then fold the remaining buttered third over that, much like you would fold a letter.
Once more, roll out the dough to create a sizable rectangle that is 1/4 inch thick. Repeat folding the dough into thirds. This step should be repeated three times in total.
Roll out the dough to a sizeable rectangle with a thickness of about 1/8 inch.. Cut the dough into triangles, with the base measuring about 3-4 inches and the height about 6-8 inches.
Place a piece of chocolate on the base of each triangle, and roll the dough up, starting at the base and moving towards the point of the triangle. Pinch the ends to seal.
Arrange the croissants on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
Allow them to rise for another 15 minutes.
Brush the croissants with an egg wash made by beating 1 egg mixed with 1 teaspoon of water.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants turn golden brown.
Before serving, allow the croissants to cool for a few minutes.
Enjoy your delicious Homemade Chocolate Croissants!
