Celery is a popular vegetable known for its refreshing flavor, high water content, and nutritional value. Whether eaten raw, added to salads, or blended into a green drink, celery can be a useful addition to a balanced diet.
Some people believe that celery juice can cleanse the liver, purify the blood, and remove toxins from the kidneys. Although celery provides water, vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds, there is no reliable scientific evidence that it detoxifies the body or cleanses the liver and kidneys more effectively than other vegetables.
The good news is that preparing fresh celery juice is simple, and including celery in your daily meals can contribute to a healthy eating pattern.
Ingredients for Fresh Celery Juice
To prepare a refreshing celery drink, you will need:
- 4–5 fresh celery stalks
- 1 cup of cold drinking water (optional)
- 1 small cucumber (optional)
- A little fresh lemon juice (optional)
These ingredients create a refreshing vegetable drink without requiring added sugar.
Step 1: Wash the Celery Thoroughly
Choose fresh celery stalks that are firm and free from visible spoilage.
Separate the stalks and rinse them thoroughly under running drinking water. Gently rub the surfaces to remove dirt and debris.
Do not use soap or household cleaning products on vegetables.
Step 2: Cut the Celery Into Smaller Pieces
Place the washed celery on a clean cutting board.
Cut the stalks into smaller pieces so they fit easily into your blender or juicer.
You can include the leafy portions if they are fresh and clean.
Step 3: Prepare the Juice
Using a blender:
- Place the celery pieces in the blender.
- Add approximately one cup of drinking water if needed.
- Blend until the mixture is smooth.
- If you prefer a thinner drink, strain it through a clean fine-mesh strainer.
Using a juicer:
- Feed the celery pieces into the juicer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Collect the juice in a clean glass.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate promptly.
Blending and retaining the pulp preserves more of the vegetable’s fiber than straining it.
