Fluffy Moon-Style Donuts

Ingredients:

1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
Zest of an orange
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
8g yeast
7g baking powder
150ml warm water (about 5.3 ounces)
100g semolina (about 0.7 cup)
250g flour (about 1.7 cups)
Cooking oil (for frying)
Sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions:

Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water .Let it sit for a couple of minutes to get foamy.

In a mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, flour, vanilla sugar, orange zest, salt, sugar, vegetable oil, semolina, and baking powder. Mix well until a dough forms.
On a surface dusted with flour, knead the dough until it takes on a smooth, elastic texture.
Reposition the dough in the mixing bowl after shaping it into a ball. Once the dough has doubled in size, cover the bowl with a fresh kitchen towel and allow it to rise for approximately one hour.
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles and knead it briefly.
Roll out the dough until it is approximately 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) thick. To cut out donut shapes, use a donut cutter or a circular cookie cutter. If you don’t have a cutter, you can use a drinking glass for the outer circle and a smaller round object (like a bottle cap) for the inner circle.
Transfer the cut-out donuts to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. For an additional thirty minutes, cover them with a kitchen towel and let them to rise. Heat cooking oil in a deep pot or fryer to around 350°F (175°C).
Carefully place the risen donuts into the hot oil, frying a few at a time. Cook until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes on each side.. To turn them over, use tongs or a slotted spoon.
When the donuts are done, take them out of the oil and put them on a dish covered with paper towels to absorb extra oil.
While the donuts are still warm, sprinkle them with sugar, either by rolling them in a bowl of sugar or by sprinkling it over the top.
Continue frying and sugaring the remaining donuts until all of the dough is used.
Serve the fluffy moon-style donuts while they are still warm and enjoy!
