Cloudy or blurry vision can be frightening, especially as we get older. Cataracts are one of the most common causes of cloudy vision, and they can gradually make everyday activities such as reading, driving, watching television, or recognizing faces more difficult.
You may see social media posts claiming that a particular kitchen food, juice, or homemade mixture can make cataracts disappear overnight. While these claims can sound convincing, there is no food or home remedy proven to remove cataracts within 24 hours.
A cataract develops when the normally clear lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. This is a physical change in the lens, so eating a particular bowl of food cannot simply dissolve or reverse an established cataract overnight.
That does not mean nutrition is unimportant for your eyes. A balanced diet can support overall eye health. Colorful vegetables and fruits, leafy greens, legumes, nuts, seeds, fish, and other nutrient-rich foods provide vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other compounds that are important for normal body and eye function.
Carrots and other orange vegetables are often associated with eye health because they contain beta-carotene, which the body can convert into vitamin A. Leafy greens provide nutrients such as lutein and zeaxanthin, while fish provides omega-3 fatty acids. These foods can be excellent additions to a healthy eating pattern, but they should not be presented as a cure for cataracts.
If you notice increasingly cloudy vision, faded colors, glare around lights, difficulty seeing at night, or frequent changes in your glasses prescription, an eye examination is important. An eye-care professional can determine whether cataracts are responsible or whether another eye condition is causing the symptoms.
When cataracts significantly interfere with daily life, cataract surgery is the established treatment that removes the cloudy natural lens and replaces it with an artificial lens. The timing depends on how much the cataract affects your vision and quality of life.
Most importantly, don’t postpone an eye examination because a social-media remedy promises instant results. Some vision problems require timely treatment, and delaying proper care can allow an underlying condition to worsen.
A healthy diet can help support your eyes for the long term, but there is no scientifically established kitchen recipe that can make cataracts disappear in one night.
