The Kitchen Looks Terrible, But Here’s How to Deep Clean It and Make It Look New Again

When a tenant moves out and leaves behind a kitchen like this, the first reaction can be overwhelming. Grease around the stove, stained cabinet doors, dirty corners, buildup along the edges, and clutter inside the cabinets can make the entire room look much worse than it actually is.

The good news is that you don’t always need an expensive kitchen renovation to make a dramatic difference. With the right cleaning products, a little patience, and a systematic approach, even a heavily neglected kitchen can look fresh, clean, and much more presentable.

Before doing anything, remove everything from the cabinets, drawers, countertops, and floor. Throw away empty containers and anything that is no longer usable. Once the kitchen is empty, you can finally see exactly where the dirt and grease have accumulated.

For protection, wear rubber gloves and keep the room well ventilated. Never mix cleaning chemicals together, especially bleach with vinegar, ammonia, or other cleaning products. Choose one product at a time and follow the instructions on its label.

Start with the cabinets because grease and dust often collect on their doors, handles, corners, and edges. For everyday grime, warm water mixed with a small amount of dish soap can be surprisingly effective. Use a microfiber cloth that is damp rather than soaking wet, and wipe the cabinets from top to bottom.
