At 3:07 A.M., I was screaming through labor while my husband ignored every call. Then his “coworker”

Then at Chloe’s belly.

I thought I finally understood.

He had chosen another woman.

He had chosen another family.

I thought his betrayal was already the worst thing I could discover.

I was wrong.

The door suddenly opened again.

Dr. Evans, the Chief of Obstetrics who had spent the night fighting to save my life after I hemorrhaged, walked into the room.

He looked at David.

And froze.

Then his expression changed completely.

“You.”

David stepped backward.

Dr. Evans pointed directly at him.

“You’re the man who came to my office last month asking about maternal mortality during a power failure in the operating room.”

David’s face went white.

“You asked me how quickly a woman could bleed to death if a transfusion was delayed.”

“I… you have the wrong person.”

“No,” Dr. Evans said coldly.

“He doesn’t.”

Elena, David’s younger sister, stepped forward.

She had been the only member of his family willing to brave the storm and get me to the hospital.

She looked at her brother with disgust.

“I went back to your house for some clothes,” she said.

“I opened the safe looking for your health insurance cards.”

Then she placed a thick manila folder on my hospital bed.

“I found this instead.”

Chloe backed toward the door.

Her hand tightened around her pregnant belly.

For the first time, she looked terrified.

Elena turned to me.

“Maya, you need to see this.”

My hands trembled as I opened the folder.

The first page was covered in cold, precise legal language.

I barely understood what I was reading.

Then my eyes reached the bottom right corner.

And my entire world stopped.

There was a signature.

My signature.

Perfectly replicated.

Every curve.

Every stroke.

Every detail.

Except I had never signed that document.

I looked at David.

He wouldn’t meet my eyes.

“What is this?” I whispered.

Nobody answered.

Then Elena spoke.

“The papers say you agreed to something before tonight.”

My heart pounded.

“What?”

She swallowed hard.

“A legal arrangement involving your medical decisions, your finances, and the baby.”

The room suddenly felt freezing.

I looked back at the forged signature.

This wasn’t about Chloe.

It wasn’t about an affair.

It wasn’t even about David wanting another family.

Someone had planned for me to die.

And they had prepared the paperwork long before I ever entered that operating room.

I slowly raised my eyes toward my husband.

“You planned this?”

David said nothing.

But his silence was answer enough.

And as Dr. Evans reached for the folder, Elena whispered the words that made my blood run cold:

“Maya… there’s another page.”
